Pipeline  Press  Newsletters

An irregular newsletter for those who are interested in organs, concerts, books, competitions, CDs, gifts for you to surprise your organ music loving friends ... almost anything that is to do with organ music, organists and music in general, with a focus on our little part of the world!
(And anything else that tickles my fancy. . . )

Oh! What a Giveaway! Win Music, Books & Calendars for Christmas!□
Oh! What a giveaway!
Welcome to our December edition—the final issue after the great hectic end-of-year sprint of rehearsals, shopping, wrapping, planning, practising, posting, baking and occasionally losing the plot. In this issue  we're giving you the chance to go in the draw to win 1 of 9 wonderful prizes. All you have to do is visit our competition page and choose which 2 prizes you would most want to win. No skill required - just tick two boxes, fill out your contact details, and send. But first:

Jenny's Musk Christmas Cake

My own contribution to the Organists in the Kitchen pages: A very, very, very rich, special Christmas cake. Easy to make, but not so easy to refuse a piece. If you like chocolate, ginger wine, English breakfast tea, the usual fruit mixes, and spices, this is for you. If you are trying to diet - forget it.
Bad news - and good news
ISBN - 9781836905349 Organs and Organists: Their Inside Stories
Yes, sorry, "Organs and Organists: Their Inside Stories", with the iconic cover of the organ in Christchurch Town Hall and 416 glorious coloured pages, is out of print. *
But wait! There is always a solution, and print-on-demand is it! Enter The Great British Bookshop in the UK, which prints copies on demand. The good news is that the book now comes with a useful index, and 424 pages. Get your own copy now (don't just borrow it - support a cat's mother today)

*If it is any help, Butz Music Publishers in Bonn still have some English edition copies of Organs and Organists available (better still, with hardcover, 416 pages), so you can always try there first, especially if you live in the EU or want your copy in a hurry :-)
The winners of our last competition were. . .
The winners of the "Stops Along the Way" calendar for 2026 were Val H. in Timaru, New Zealand, and Caroline H. in the UK. The correct pair of English feet were those on the left... I mean, socks with sandals?? (A surprising number chose the pair on the right with shoes on, but no, those were steadfastly Germanic tootsies.)

Glorious abbey organ jigsaw

Here is another time-wasting jigsaw for you. Salem Abbey in southern Germany is delightful, but the organ simply takes your breath away. With 165 pieces to complete, it will take your time as well :-)  But what a wonderful way to spend the holiday season.
Have fun!  (Note that there is a bonus jigsaw this issue - see Dudley's note below)

Now for our end-of-year bonanza giveaway!
As a big finale to 2025 we are giving away 9 prizes:
  • 1 copy of Martin Setchell's selected organ works;
  • 2 Butz German organ calendars
  • 2 Albert Schweitzer "Zwei Klavierstücke" (first printing, by Butz Publishing in Bonn)
  • 2 "Cardboard Cathedral Organ Capers" CDs
  • 1 Tee shirt "I don't play wrong notes"
  • 1  tote bag for self-respecting organists
All you have to do is to chug on over to the competition page on Pipeline Press, choose which 2 prizes you'd most prefer to win and click submit. (Not a single Englishman's be-socked sandal in sight to confuse and amaze you.)  But be quick - entries close January 10th, midnight NZ time.   Entries are limited to one per person, and only one prize will be awarded to each winner.

Our (and Dudley's) Christmas message
Link to Dudley's christmas jigsaw of himself
Dudley would like it noted that he has made a jigsaw of himself (I dare you try it), inspected the wrapping paper (rustly, excellent), the ribbons (stringy, dangerous), the Christmas tree (climbable, suspicious), and the general state of festive order (unsatisfactory).

Several baubles have been “tested for gravity,” a ribbon has been courageously defeated, and a cardboard box has been promoted to holiday accommodation.

He, and his staff of Martin and Jenny thank you the readers, for your loyalty this past year, and wish you all a merry Christmas, minimal tinsel ingestion, and no unexpected encounters with sellotape. Normal chaos will resume in January. □
